“Due to a global decline in newsprint prices, which have gone below the cost of production, and a rise in raw material (chemical pulp) prices, Open Joint Stock Company Volga has had to scale back the production and, starting from April 13th, shut down three paper machines to upgrade the production process”, said General Director Mr. Dmitry Donchenko.

Volga’s technical agenda has been quite intensive this year. To ensure safe operation of the Mill’s production facilities, Volga has had its waterside structures examined by an expert company, who concluded that they can continue to be operated in compliance with legal regulations. Volga has also implemented some fire safety arrangements designed to prevent material damage and, most importantly, life loss.

Laitex Oy (Finland) has supplied a new ash conveyor as part of the ash handling retrofit at the boiler plant. The water-filled ash conveyor has been designed to protect from high temperatures and dust hazards encountered during ash removal, transportation and storage.

As JSC Volga is proceeding with plans to phase the old DCA-02 measuring system out of service and to equip all of its RGP-60 refiners with RMS-RS1 control system, the new system has recently been installed at another two refiners (pos. 2-1304 and 2-2202) at the TMP plant.
