On October 8, Smart Forest 2024, the III Federal Forum on Digitalization and IT in the Timber Industry, hosted by ComNews Information Group, took place in St. Petersburg.
The Forum was held under the sponsorship of the general sectoral partner – Ilim Group and strategic partners: Volga JSC, Segezha Group, Sveza Companies, Karelia Pulp LLC, VLP Group JSC.
Speakers included representatives of Yandex Cloud, Yandex 360, Ilim, Sveza, Segezha Group, Vologodskie Lesopromyshlenniki, Volga, Proteus, Unicon, Karelia Pulp, Delyana and many others.
Forum participants included heads of information technology and information security departments of major timber industry businesses, top managers of domestic IT solution, software, telecommunications equipment and automated process control system developers, representatives of regulatory bodies, analysts and experts, who exchanged views on implementation of the Federal State Information System for the Forestry (FGIS F), the role of digital business transformation at a time when leading foreign vendors have left the Russian market, and replacement of foreign software with domestic solutions.
The event was attended by representatives of Volga JSC: Head of Information Technology Department Aleksandr Kollegaev, Supply Chain Director Ksenia Lomaeva and Chief Instrument Engineer Maksim Kuznetsov.
“Digital Transformation of the Timber Industry” plenary session opened the Forum.
During the first two sessions, “Innovative Technologies and Digital Solutions for the Timber Industry” and “Innovative Technologies and Digital Solutions for the Timber Industry,” the participants discussed the feasibility of replacing foreign software by 2030. This is due to both financial and technical resources of companies, as well as capabilities of Russian developers.
The final third session was held in a discussion format: “Foresight: Technological Sovereignty and Sustainable Development of the Timber Industry.”
The experts discussed issues of voluntary forest certification, sectoral information platforms, technological sovereignty and sustainable development of the timber industry, as well as ensuring comprehensive security using digital technologies and feasibility of implementing Industry 4.0 in the sector in the coming years.
“Smart Forest is the largest discussion platform for discussing digital and information technologies in the timber industry, practice of implementing import-independent IT systems and industrial automation tools,” Aleksandr Kollegaev said. – Moreover, this is also a great opportunity for us to meet with opposite members and partners, discuss cooperation issues and share best practices. This year we discussed the FGIS F launch and requirements to transport to be fitted out with satellite tracking equipment."
