Within the framework of the priority investment project of Volga JSC, it is planned to install a new K-27 condensing steam turbine in the power complex (NiGRES) in the near future. To this date, the project is in its final stage.

In May of this year, three employees of the power complex (NiGRES) were sent on mission to the Kaluga Turbine Plant to participate in bench tests of the turbine. The head of the heat engineering service, Stanislav Korobov, told us about the test progress.

“During the testing process, all the main components of the turbine were inspected and its operation on a barring gear was tested. We checked the control stop valves for smooth operation, their density and vibration components during the acceleration of the turbine from zero to three thousand revolutions,” Stanislav noted.

Maksim Merkulov, chief technician of the heat engineering service, was also present at the tests and accepted the equipment, which he will subsequently maintain in working order.

“During the tests, minor issues were identified, which were eliminated during our mission. In general, we can say that everything went well,” Maksim said.

Roman Gunchenko, chief technician of the condensing steam turbine construction department, also told us about the mission results: “Among other things, we reviewed the documentation, which was first checked at the Kaluga Plant by the technical control department and then by representatives of the power complex. I think the tests were a success. According to the new schedule, colleagues from the Kaluga Plant will have to disassemble the turbine, inspect, pack and send it to our address. The equipment will be delivered in several batches.”

To date, the station is prepared to accept the turbine and begin installation of the equipment. The foundations, intake tunnel and a ball cleaning system have already been mounted. According to the approved schedule, installation of the turbine will take 60 days. Another thirty days are allotted for commissioning work. Once this is done, a comprehensive test will be performed, including operating the turbine at maximum load for 72 hours. All work is scheduled to be completed in September this year.

– Why is this project valuable to Volga JSC?

– Along with additional power, the most economic operating mode of the entire power plant will be ensured. The fact is that the new turbine is a condensing one. Steam will be supplied to the turbine from the exhaust of turbine No. 2 and discharged into its own condenser, ensuring maximum efficiency. This will reduce the cost of electricity production and reduce steam emissions, and increase the operating efficiency of the major equipment of NiGRES,” Robert Khazeev, Technical Director and Chief Engineer of PC (NiGRES) commented.
